  1. Once a Pirate Crew has begun sailing it is understood that the crew has read, understands, acknowledges and agrees to comply with the game rules and penalties. Questions and concerns must be addressed beforehand. Anyone caught breaking the rules is subject to penalties including disqualification.
  2. Pirate Crews must visibly wear their Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt identification at all times, even while sailing between Ports of Call.
  3. Competitive Division Crews must have at least 2 members, both 13 years or older. Competitive Crew Members between the ages of 13 and 18 inclusive must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver the morning of the event.
  4. Recreational Division Crews may consist of members of any age, as long as waivers are signed by parents or guardians for any members under the age of 19.
  5. All participants (contestants and volunteers) must sign a waiver relieving the Pickering Village BIA and/or the Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt Committee of any responsibility relating to personal injury or hardship. This is a volunteer run event and any participation is done solely at one’s own risk.
  6. Participants must check in at the starting location at Noon and before 12:45pm; ready to start the hunt at 1:00pm.  Any crew arriving after 12:45 may be disqualified.
  7. Crew members must stay together within a reasonable range of visual and vocal contact at all times. A Pirate Trial at a Port Of Call cannot start until all crew members are present at the location.
  8. Competitors must show respect for the public, volunteers, fellow competitors, security guards, and race organizers at all times. Race officials are available to settle any disputes at the time of the dispute and their rulings are final. Foul language and arguing will not be tolerated, and Pickering Village BIA reserves the right to penalize or disqualify participants who engage in this type of behavior.
  9. Travel is by foot only. Pirate Crews must obey the law at all times. You must cross roads at lights or crosswalks and obey traffic signals at all times.
  10. Crews must arrive at the finishing area and check in in order to qualify as completing the competition. Crews arriving after the allotted sailing time face penalties for every minute arriving after their designated check-in time (competitive division only). Prizes will be awarded at the Abandon Ship closing ceremonies.
  11. The winning Pirate Crew is the crew that collects the most ‘doubleloons’ (points) within the allotted time period. Rankings for 2nd, 3rd, etc. will also be based on the same criteria.
  12. In the unlikely event that any crews finish in a tie, there will be a draw to declare ranking.
  13. The Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt Committee may, at its sole discretion, award additional prizes for the following categories: Best Costume, Best Team Name, Top Finishing Teams.
  14. All prizes must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred, exchanged or substituted, whether in cash or otherwise. The Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt Committee reserves the right in its sole discretion to substitute an alternate prize of equivalent monetary value if for any reason the prize cannot be awarded as described. The winner of any prize further agrees to permit The Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt Committee and/or the Competition Sponsors to use the winner's name, and photograph and/or video image in any publicity or advertising without compensation, and releasing The Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt Committee, the Competition Sponsors and their respective agents, officers, directors, employees and representatives from any and all liability, damages, costs, expenses and claims arising out of or relating to the awarded Prize.
  15. Crews may use help with clues from anyone or by any means except from Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt Committee members. Other crews, cell phones, Internet, bystanders, and lifelines are okay.
  16. After completion of a Pirate Trial, the teams must get an official sign-off from the Port Of Call volunteer before moving to the next Port of Call.
  17. Crews will perform the Pirate Trials in the order that the crews arrived as determined by the Pirate Trial official.
  18. Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt officials reserve the right to disqualify or penalize any Crew or Crew Member if they are found to be or appear to be in violation of the official rules. The rules are meant to be general and therefore are subject to the interpretation of the Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt officials.
  19. All Crews and Crew Members must comply with the directions of the Pillage the Village volunteers, local authorities, and property and/or venue owners and managers.
  20. This event may be filmed or photographed for promotional purposes. The photographs and video footage may be used on websites, posters and media releases. Participants agree to allow likenesses of themselves to be displayed in all such media.
  21. Pickering Village BIA and the Pillage the Village Treasure Hunt Committee reserve the right to refuse the registration of any participant or crew.
